COVID-19 Information

“Based on the current status of the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. and to help protect people’s health we are holding off on deciding if BrickCon 2021 will be in person, a hybrid approach or fully online. Please check back here after July 15th”

With the switch to an online convention, we are making some changes on what games we will offer and how we will play them. But we will try to make them as fun as possible.

How do I play?

Interested in playing a game? Sign up for the chance to participate in a game by logging into your account.

To make games more accessible for as many attendees as possible, we will have several games that use the same set. The thought behind this decision was to allow you to participate in as many games as you want with a relatively low cost to you. You can purchase the set (or use the pieces from your collection).

For games that require the same set, we will be using 31088 Deep Sea Creatures. You will need to either purchase the set or collect the same pieces (part and color) ahead of time. Sets need not be sealed ahead of time.

31088 Deep Sea Creatures

Speed Building Challenges

  1. Individual Speed Build
  2. Speed Unbuild
  3. Standing Build (a subset of pieces will be announced ahead of time)

Creative Building Challenges

  • Box Build
  • Master Build - Standard Rules
  • Master Build - UNLIMITED

Other Games

BrickCon seeks to offer a variety of games every year and this year is no different. We are introducing a new Virtual Build challenge this year with more info coming soon. Here are the games that will not require the set above but may require some planning.

Creative Building Challenges

  • Mod the Con Model (Con model required through either purchase or collecting the parts)

Knowledge Challenges

  • Super Quiz

Virtual Challenges (new for 2020)

  • In development: Master Build and Speed options with a predetermined Studio library of elements revealed at the start of the game.
  • Scavenger Hunt

Socially Distant Competitions (pre-recorded before BrickCon)

  • Wacky Racers
  • Battle Bricks

Please note that some of these games may not make the final cut. The current plan is a work in progress and we reserve the right to make changes if something more Awesome comes along.

Because of the online venue, we have a few new requirements for participating in games. Most importantly, we will not limit the number of participants in any game, though we may make several sessions of the same game to control for the size of each group.

To participate in most BrickCon games, you will need the following:

  • Be registered as an AFOL attendee for BrickCon 2020
  • Sign up for the games you want to play on
  • Collect the pieces or purchase the set ahead of time (piece requirements vary depending on game).
  • A web camera to participate in the joint calls and to show your creations.
  • Computer access as some games may provide digital instructions, will utilize form submissions, or will require BrickLink’s Studio software - please download and setup before the games start.

Leg Godt (Play Well)

Finally, a few people have asked how we will prevent cheating in an online environment. We are being creative so expect a few twists that will prevent cheating ahead of time. Our primary response is that we are all coming to BrickCon to have fun with LEGO which means “Play Well” in good faith. We have confidence that our builders will remain true to the original meaning of LEGO and be fair and respectful of everyone participating.

Your Ideas

If you have any additional ideas for a fun and doable online game you don’t see listed above that we can host at BrickCon 2020, please reach out to us via our contact form.

Become a Speaker

Are you passionate about LEGO? Do you have a LEGO topic you’re enthusiastic to share with others? Do you have a technique you’d love to teach?

Consider being a speaker at BrickCon. The event is a success because of everyone who attends – including those who donate their time to offer sessions for others attendees! BrickCon offers negotiated compensation for our speakers.

Here’s what we need from you:

  • Name of presentation
  • Description of content and any visuals you will be using
  • Time estimate
  • How many times do you want to give your presentation?
  • Expected size of audience
  • Preferred time
  • Facilitates required (i.e. sound, projector, tables, etc)

Your content must be submitted to BrickCon at least one month prior to the event. This ensures we have your content ready to go, and have addressed any potential issues (technology, potentially offensive content, etc). Compensation for registration will not be provided until you’ve complied with this requirement.
